What is PVD?

Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVD), also known as wick drains, are one of the most effective and economical ground improvement techniques for accelerating the consolidation of soft, compressible soils.

PVD works by providing a shorter drainage path for pore water to escape from the soil. When combined with surcharge loading, PVD can dramatically reduce the time required for soil consolidation from years to just a few months — enabling faster construction of embankments, highways, ports, airports, and industrial facilities.

Since the development of the synthetic prefabricated vertical drain in the late 1970s, Yadav Constructions has been one of the leading PVD contractors in India. We have installation rigs available for each soil type, varying from very soft soils to very stiff intermediate layers.

Installation Process

5-Stage PVD Process

Our proven installation methodology ensures consistent quality and optimal ground improvement outcomes.

Drain Installation

The prefabricated vertical drains are installed using our wide range of stitchers to enhance anchoring into the subsurface soil layers.

Anchor Attachment

The drain extension located at the base of the mandrel may be attached to an anchor plate or rod for secure, precise placement.

Automatic Anchoring

Automatic anchoring systems are also available, keeping the drain at depth during retraction of the mandrel for consistent installation quality.

Drain Cutting & Reset

After the mandrel has reached the surface, the drain is cut and a new anchor plate is connected to the bottom of the next drain.

Hydraulic Drive System

The mandrel is pushed into and retracted from the ground through a system of cylinders which are propelled by the excavator's hydraulic system.
